Mission
As part of my ongoing quest to better understand the technology I design, I created an experiential mobile application aimed at early childhood development and helping children with learning disabilities. As a young father, I recognised the importance of developing basic sensory responses to visual elements, which were often taught using simple pictures. Realizing that this could be greatly enhanced through animation and sound, I began working on a React Native application to experiment with my ideas.
Approach
To begin, I studied pattern science and geometry in both 2D and 3D, focusing on how these elements impact basic human visual responses. I then designed an approach to sound, drawing on my background in electronic music production, to craft ideas for speed, intensity, and vibrancy in the interactive visualisations
Design
The application was designed using the React Native framework, with JavaScript and JSX playing a significant role in structuring the core application. The visual interactions were a more challenging aspect of the design and required unique interactive CSS that could be looped and manipulated based on user-configured settings
